Cornish cross broiler chickens are also known as white broilers, jumbo broilers, Cornish X and Cornish giants. So Big Farms & hatchery primarily sells the Ross 308 breed of Cornish cross broiler chicks.
Cornish Cross is a fast-growing meat type / broiler chicken capable of being harvested at a live weight of 6 pound / dressed weight of 4.25 pounds in about 7 weeks with quality feed and management style.
They have an excellent Feed Conversion Ratio of approximately 1.95 to 1 meaning that roughly for every 2 pounds of feed consumed they will produce 1 pound of live weight with proper management and feed.
So Big farms Day old broiler chicks are NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) certified

I order hundreds of chicks a year and have tried many places. I get the best results from So Big Farms hands down. They come alive except for the odd one once in a while (to be expected with shipped birds) but far less than anywhere else I have tried. I also tend to see zero acities from these birds.

We just started our small production poultry farm specializing in these beauties, and out of the 3 other hatcheries we tried for Cornish cross no one could compare to the level of care and professionalism with the perfect touch of special like so big farms. The other hatcheries chicks were not as strong, as we lost way too many with the other hatcheries from shipping to first 3 weeks of life! So big farms I’ve only ever had 1 DOA! If I have had that they replace or refund everytime! They also are very cautious of shipping out bad hatches so they ensure the best checks to give us the best Cornish crosses! I appreciate that because I suspect that is what happened with one of the other hatcheries because I seemed to be the only one with such bad luck from them! 10 out of 10 farm of people and chicks!
We luckily live in Texas so we get to be a part of the routes in state for the best delivery system for the chicks by far! We usually always get a few extra and it accounts for the unfortunate loss of one or 2 the first few days! We hope to use so big farms for years to come especially with all the pros they have compared to other Cornish hatcheries!

The communication about that incident was gorgeous, I received the birds 2 days ago, just a week later than originally thought.. They looked healthier than the last batch I got from another hatchery. I highly recommend the vaccination, and highly recommend this hatchery. Just took one off the smoker that was 8 weeks at processing and weighed 7.5 lbs dressed. Looked like a small turkey.

My order of 30 chicks was amazing. The processor we used was booked from Thanksgiving so the birds were just shy of 11 weeks. Wow they were huge! Smallest processed bird was 10lb and the largest roo was 16lbs. Those are finished weights not live weight. Amazing watching them grow! Definitely ordering again!

Last year was my 4th year raising Cornish Cross chickens and my first time ordering from this hatchery. They were kind enough to send extra chicks with the order and the survivability through the brooder stage was as good or better than I’ve ever had. Once pastured they also performed exceptionally well with record few losses to any typical Cornish Cross problems.
